‘The Supreme Court has proved that rule of law prevails above all else,’ the media company said after the order was passed.
The Supreme Court today ruled in favour of the media company NDTV in a case of alleged money laundering. The charges were related to the funds raised by the company outside India for its non-news businesses in 2007.
Alleging that the company had hid important facts and indulged in round-tripping of the money, tax officials in 2015 demanded the reopening of an assessment. The top court, however, ruled against this prayer. NDTV carried the news on its website saying, “The Supreme Court has proved that rule of law prevails above all else.”
Newslaundry contacted NDTV officials to talk about the case but they were not immediately available for comment. This report will be updated if a response is received.
