The Zee News building in Noida was sealed today after seven more of the TV news channel’s employees tested positive for coronavirus over the weekend. In all, 36 Zee News staffers have been found infected so far.

According to a press release by the Gautam Budh Nagar administration, which has jurisdiction over Noida, one Zee News employee tested positive for the virus on May 15. Subsequently, 28 of their contacts were found infected. Another staffer tested positive on May 23 and six the next day.

“The entire building has been sealed for sanitization and containment of the disease,” the press release stated. “The entire building will be sanitized and entry of employees has been stopped till the building is sanitized and is free from Covid-19 infection.”

Until then, Zee News has reportedly moved its operations to an adjacent building owned by its parent company, Zee Media Ltd.

Newslaundry has detailed, in Hindi and English, how Zee News became a coronavirus hotspot. We found that its management was lax in enforcing safety protocols and guidelines prescribed by the Indian government to prevent the virus from spreading.
