You ask, we answer.
Ever so often at Newslaundry, we try to switch things around: we hear from our subscribers instead of the other way around. After all, we are powered by our subscribers, whose support allows us to pursue honest, independent journalism, and tell the stories that must be told.
NL Chatbox is one of the tools we use to this end: a session for subscribers to ask us about our work and our views on various issues, to tell us what they like, or don’t, and give feedback on the work we do.
The latest edition of Chatbox was held on June 13. The Newslaundry team discussed a range of issues with our subscribers, from restrictions on journalists covering the coronavirus pandemic to public funding of media, the state of Hindi journalism, and diversity in the Newslaundry newsroom.
On the hounding of journalists, Manisha Pande points out that there has been “a spate of FIRs filed against journalists who are telling the realities” of how governments and hospitals have handled the pandemic.
Abhinandan Sekhri says he wants to build Newslaundry as “the most transparent news organisation in the country”.
Anusuya Som narrates her experience staying in a coronavirus quarantine centre in Delhi.
To participate in the next NL Chatbox session, do look out for our announcements on social media. We will also send you an email with more information.
Independent journalism is not possible until you pitch in. We have seen what happens in ad-funded models: Journalism takes a backseat and gets sacrificed at the altar of clicks and TRPs.
Stories like these cost perseverance, time, and resources. Subscribe now to power our journalism.
