A defamation case has been filed against Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami by a serving officer of the Mumbai police. The case has been filed before a Mumbai sessions court on Wednesday.

The case was filed by deputy commissioner of police Abhishek Trimukhe against Goswami for the misrepresentation of facts related to the death of Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput.

Speaking to Newslaundry, Trimuke said, “Goswami has misrepresented facts in the case related to Rajput’s death. He defamed me and that's why the case has been filed.”

Goswami has been booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to defamation.

Goswami is embroiled in two other cases as well. One is related to the suicide of interior designer Anvay Naik, which Goswami is accused of abetting. The second case is related to the manipulation of TRP ratings where Goswami is accused of conspiring with Partho Dasgupta, the former CEO of television ratings measurement agency Broadcast Audience Research Council.
