A YouTube video of a song featuring prominent actors in Bengali cinema and theatre artistes has gone viral. Coinciding with the Bengal assembly election, the song is titled Nijeder Mote Nijeder Gaan, or “Our Song in Our Own Way”.

Published by a channel called Citizens United, the song is a social commentary on the state of the country under the governing dispensation. It covers a range of issues affecting the country, including skyrocketing fuel prices, new farm laws, saffronisation of history, and curbing of dissent.

The singers include film actor Riddhi Sen and thespian Rudraprasad Sengupta. Celebrities such as Anirban Bhattacharya, Ujan Chatterjee, Kaushik Sen, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Anindya Chatterjee, Anupam Roy, Sampa Biswas, and Surangana Bandyopadhyay feature in it.

The song, composed by Sunhadeep Guha, has become a big draw with its simple visuals and languid tunes of dhamsa, percussion and guitar.
