At least 171 journalists have lost their lives to Covid-19 since April 2020, according to a list compiled by Rate The Debate Campaign, and initiated by the Institute of Perception Studies, Delhi.
The , shows that 121 journalists died this year alone, with the most deaths, 90, taking place in April. Twenty-four journalists died in the first six days of May, an average of four a day, due to Covid complications.
Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Telangana account for the most number of deaths.
According to its , the Institute of Perception Studies conducted its research based on a three-step verification process: data collection from media reports and already existing lists, cross-verification through media reports and calls to colleagues, and employers and families of the journalists.
