Former journalist Kanchan Gupta has been appointed senior advisor in the ministry of information and broadcasting, according to Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar.

Gupta was made a member of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose 125th Birth Anniversary Commemoration High Level Committee, headed by prime minister, earlier this year.

He was previously chairperson of the Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, which is headquartered in Kolkata. According to the Hindu, the foundation, under the union culture ministry, is the central government’s nodal agency for supporting public library services and promoting the public library movement in the country.

Kanchan was also employed in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, working closely with former national security advisor Brajesh Mishra on foreign affairs and security matters as the PMO representative on the National Security Advisory Board.
