Hafta 366: Ten years of Newslaundry, Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Parliament, Karnataka hijab row

The podcast where we discuss the news of the week.

WrittenBy:NL Team
Date:

This week on NL Hafta, it’s an all-Newslaundry panel with Abhinandan Sekhri, Manisha Pande, Raman Kirpal, Anand Vardhan, Jayashree Arunachalam and Mehraj D Lone.

The discussion starts with Rahul Gandhi’s speech in the Parliament, and how the opposition and media responded to it. Jayashree comments on the chaos it generated, saying: “The measure of the speech right now is on the facts that he made but on how angry it had made the BJP, as it clearly touched a nerve.” Mehraj brings up the importance of discussing issues raised in the speech and says, “Inequality and the idea of a nation are very important discussions at the moment.”

The panel talks about the hijab row in Karnataka and the issues people have with religious markers and identification, as well as the controversy surrounding Telangana chief minister KCR suggesting that India needs a new constitution. Since it’s 10 years of Newslaundry, the panelists also talk about the journey so far and what to look forward to in the future.

This and a lot more, only on NL Hafta.
