Revisiting an old episode of Back In Time with Kunal Kamra.
Piyush Pandey, the towering creative force who shaped Indian advertising, died on October 23 at the age of 70. He spent over four decades at Ogilvy India, which became almost synonymous with his name and vision.
Piyush and his brother Prasoon frequently collaborated on campaigns. To commemorate his work, we are republishing this 2022 episode of Back In Time featuring Kunal Kamra in conversation with Prasoon Pandey. Revisit other episodes here.
In the final episode of Back In Time, Kunal Kamra sits down with Prasoon Pandey – his former boss, mentor and among the most iconic ad filmmakers – to chat about the Times of India ad campaign. They discuss Prasoon’s inspiration and how he convinced the brand to take such a different approach.
“Because you weren’t personal, because you weren’t bitter, your pieces had a life of its own,” he says about portraying the common man’s anger in the ad. He also talks about how cartoonist RK Laxman inspired him, why never using a smartphone makes him a better storyteller, and how advertising has changed over the decades.
