As Delhi’s air turns increasingly toxic, the government has quietly rolled back GRAP-3 restrictions.
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has remarked that Delhi’s air is so toxic that even a morning walk is difficult. But with GRAP restrictions on physical attendance rolled back, thousands in the capital are compelled to go to schools and work despite poor air quality.
Last year, when the Aam Aadmi Party was in power, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena had been public about his concerns about the government’s performance on the fight against pollution. But this year, when the crisis seems worse as compared to last year, the L-G is curiously silent. This week, he even flagged off trials of hot air balloon rides at Baansera Park near Sarai Kale Khan. These rides will be open to the public this Saturday.
For this episode of Aaj Ka AQI, Newslaundry reached the park on Thursday morning. The AQI here was a staggering 548 as per our air monitor. Whereas the official number at the nearest monitoring station was 375.
