The Noida Police detained YouTuber Shyam Meera Singh on Wednesday, though he was released later that evening. While the specific reasons for the move remain unclear, sources indicate he was held under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), a provision typically used for preventive detention to maintain public order.

Reports suggest that Shyam Meera was interacting with people near Sector 60 for an upcoming video when passing police personnel asked him to stop. After he reportedly questioned the request, police took Shyam Meera and his associates to the station, where they were accused of disturbing public order.

Reacting to the development, Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh criticised the move on X (formerly Twitter).

“Shyam Meera Singh has been arrested by ‘Yogi-ji's police’ for the ‘crime’ of asking questions,” he wrote. “Behold the government's authoritarianism – if a journalist asks questions, the police will arrest them at the government's behest.”

The police are yet to issue an official statement.
