After the Special Intensive Revision in Delhi, nearly 47 lakh names have been temporarily left out of the draft electoral roll. In Burari alone, around 1.67 lakh names are missing, making it the largest exclusions in terms of absolute numbers across the capital.

Located in north Delhi, Burari has several industrial areas and is home to a large migrant workforce, including workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Many say they have voted from the same addresses in previous elections, but have now found their names missing.

The deletions have left residents worried and scrambling to get their names restored. 

At the AERO office, long queues formed as voters sought corrections. Burari resident Avinash, who believed there was an error in his voter registration, so he used ChatGPT to fill out Form 8 to correct his details but still received a notice.

The SIR exercise has also put pressure on Booth Level Officers, particularly in areas like Burari where migrant workers frequently move for work. For residents, the concern goes beyond voting: some fear that being left off the electoral roll could also create difficulties in accessing government welfare schemes.
