Delhi Police shut down central Delhi to stop protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar. This is what our reporters saw.
The Cockroach Janta Party and Left organisations had called a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Instead, Delhi saw widespread barricading, a heavy police deployment, and the mass detention of protesters.
Delhi Police also detained three Newslaundry reporters and an intern. Police took their phones and questioned them despite their press cards, then released them. Our reporters saw police personnel stop protesters from gathering even in small groups.
Watch the video to see where and how protesters were detained, how police treated journalists, and what the protesters were demanding.
