Police and the Transport Department have been deployed at several Delhi border checkpoints to inspect vehicles entering the city.
To control pollution in Delhi, the government has tightened restrictions on vehicles coming in from outside the city. Buses and other vehicles entering Delhi must now meet BS-VI emission standards.
To enforce this, police and transport department teams have been stationed at various border checkpoints to inspect incoming vehicles. Those that do not meet BS-VI standards are being stopped at the borders, and in some cases they are also being fined (challaned) or impounded.
Newslaundry visited the DND Flyway, Kalindi Kunj, and Chilla Gaon borders to assess the situation. At all three checkpoints, police and transport department teams were present, inspecting vehicles entering the city.
At Kalindi Kunj, police inspected about 500 vehicles between morning and evening. Of these, 50 were turned back, while 20 were fined for violating pollution norms.
