The last time so much glamour was seen in the run-up to an election was when Amitabh Bachchanand Rajesh Khanna dipped their toes in politics. This time around though, we have no Babumoshai or Amit-ji. Yet, our political parties are not to be undone, so they’ve got the next best things -clothes-averse starlets, bling-crazy musicians and sirens of yesteryears. They’re all popping out of the woodwork to extend support, a breast or two and an off-key tune to whichever political party will have them. This is my pick of the best support any political party could ask for.

  1. Meghna Patel has provided a double whammy. Not only can she pose beautifully for Narendra Modi, she’s proven that she can also carry a tune with a band of boys. These are my two favourite moments from her oeuvre. Who’s she? If you figure it out, let me know. For once I’m as clueless as everyone else.

And if you’d like to see her in motion, here goes.

  • Congress wasn’t far behind, because Tanisha Singh KeHaath, Congress KeSaaththa.  If Modi can inspire women to show their support, Rahul-baba can as well. Again, any information on who Tanisha Singh is would be most welcome.
  • It’s not just hotties who are asking us to vote for Modi or Rahul. The first musical exhortation came from India’s very own answer to a teletubby. Bling can sing. Bappi-da has dedicated a ditty to the BJP.
  • But it’s not Congress and BJP who should prostrate themselves in front of the altar of the celebrity (faux and otherwise). It’s our very own paragon of simple living, the recently jilted, Mamatadidi. Chit funds aside, if there’s one other thing which makes Didi’s heart skip a beat – it’s the Tollywood celebrity brigade. They’re everywhere. In her rallies, in her party, in her various soirees. These are two of my favourite moments of PDA from Mamata for the celebrity party worker, and vice versa.

  • But who needs Shah Rukh Khan, when you can have Moon Moon. Whose biggest concern for the polity and herself seems to be how she’ll combat the heat while campaigning.
  • The award for best moment goes to our answer to Marilyn Monroe sans Arthur Miller. Enjoy and thank me later.
