The Income Tax (IT) Department has raided at least 22 locations in Delhi and adjoining areas related to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family. According to the latest reports, these properties were being raided pertaining to charges of alleged benami deals worth over ₹1,000 crores.
A team of about 100 officials were involved in these raids. Prasad’s daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Misa Bharti’s properties were too raided by the officials.
According to Prabhat Khabar, IT Department has also raided premises of RJD MP Premchand Gupta’s son and a few other businessmen. Bharatiya Janata Prasad (BJP) had previously alleged that Prasad and his family have been involved in corrupt deals worth over Rs 1000 crores. Last week, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that these deals dated back to the period when Prasad was Railway Minister in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
Meanwhile, the CBI has also conducted raids on multiple premises linked to P. Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu and other states.
However, Lalu Prasad Yadav has clearly denied these reports through a series of tweets;
