Two people were killed and several others injured after clashes broke out between the Kshatriya and Bharwad communities in Gujarat’s Halvad town late on Thursday.

Mobile-based internet services were suspended in Morbi and Sundernagar districts after rioters torched more than 20 vehicles and set houses on fire.

The clashes broke out after the murder of Indrasinh Zala, former municipality president and leader of the Kshatriya community, in Sundernagar’s Dhrangadhra town.

The state government has rushed three senior officers to supervise the situation along with teams of State Reserved Police Force. The police have rounded up several people who were allegedly involved in the riots.
