In the interests of journalism, and outright curiosity, the Newslaundry team created Sarahah accounts for some of our favourite TV anchors and invited everyone to share their feedback using the ‘honesty’ app. It has almost been a week, so here is a sneak peek into what the nation has to say:

I used to love you man. You were one of the few journalists I admired because you held the people in power accountable. You used to be a man with a mission. you’ve just lost it now and have become a pure entertainer. Nation wants to know when you will become a journalist again.

Quit for now. Reflect on your previous work. Watch the videos of yours. Can you live with what you have been doing? Come back and do as you wish. Your response will tell me whether to count you as a journalist or a troll.

Dear arnab i respect u but u need to respect journalism first don’t shout too much hv a discussion on every topic with everyone(left,right and centre) bt not in polarized way nd pls make REPUBLIC TV a institution based on different ideas from commies+ sanghis .. Hey Arnab. You are doing great work.I want to say that most of your news and deabtes are concentrated on Delhi, Maharashtra, J&K, UP, Bihar and sometimes Karnataka and TN. There are other states also. you and your channel must criticise and analyse the governments of other states also. By Focusing on these highlighted states, you are just following the Bhed chal of other news channel. As a responsible media person, you should also raise the issues which are important but not TRP gainer. I hail from Rajasthan, the state government is literally the worst at this time. But no news channel dares to raise issues until some spicy news comes out. I am sorry but we don’t care what neta said what.

Your anchoring would be better if you realised that an anchor ought not to allow panelists or audience to set ‘patriotism tests’ for some panelists on the show. Demanding, in a show on online gender violence, that a woman panelist give a ‘Yes or No’ answer to ‘Kashmir is an integral part of India’ is very bad anchoring. Any sensible Indian knows that the Kashmir dispute should not be reduced to such binaries. And a woman activist standing up for Kashmiri rape victims cannot be branded anti-national and asked to prove her patriotism, especially in a show on online rape threats.

I like your style- clear voice, excellent articulation, enough space for a contrarian view. Would always stop by when I saw you on the screen. Of late, disappointment is creeping in. Not all perspectives you take are near neutral. ‘Near’ because it is impossible to be neutral. Problem is when the anchor becomes consciously biased. I see this more and more in you and have started watching you less and less. You surely know this and are probably compelled to do it , but I do not watch to understand your compulsions.
